Today begins the first full week of President Biden's administration. Today, the House of Representatives sends to the Senate the impeachment of Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States.
Congress is going to be dividing its attention between passing new legislation and confirming a new cabinet, and preparing a trial for a President accused of sedition.
We're all weary. Weary of politics but more, weary of the pandemic.
Let us pray for patience, healing, the efforts to get the vaccine to millions of people, calm, respective listening, a sense of what is needed for the common good.
Let us pray for children, students, parents, those who are ill, those who are grieving. This who are alone, those who feel isolated.
But.
Let us hope.
“Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I’ve heard it in the chillest land - And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me.
Emily Dickinson (c 1861)
