San Antonio Chamber Choir

The San Antonio Chamber Choir begins its season on September 24 and 25 with a message of hope, beauty, and concern for our precious planet. When Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg addressed the United Nations in September of 2019 she shocked the world with her impassioned declaration to the world’s leaders – “How dare you?”. These words have been set for choir by Wisconsin-born composer, and Texas high school teacher Andrew Steffen. SACC will offer the world premiere of this moving work in The Deep, Deep Earth.  They will also offer uplifting movements from the Missa Gaia / Earth Mass by Paul Winter and Paul Halley which includes the sounds of wolf, whale, and seals. The “Dean of American Composers”, Aaron Copland is also featured with his finest a cappella work, In the Beginning, featuring Crystal Jarrell Johnson, mezzo-soprano. SACC will also collaborate with the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio for this concert.

UIW Cardinal Singers
The Chapel of the Incarnate Word welcomes the UIW Cardinal Singers back, for what has become an annual event.  The UIW Cardinal Singers, directed by William Gokelman, is an elite chamber choir with 16-22 auditioned members. The Singers perform music of an intricate or intimate nature, usually demanding a high level of musical competence. Performances have included collaborations with the San Antonio Chamber Choir, and Trinity University Chamber Choir (spring 2023), in venues such as the Tobin Center, the Alamo, and with the UIW Cardinal Chorale in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. The Singers typically perform in concerts with the Chorale, and are often invited to sing at events throughout San Antonio and for the University.
