I have referenced before one of my favorite scripture commentators, Joseph Donders. Today he says over and over, "Jesus was not impressed [with the scribes]." What impressed Jesus was the authenticity of the widow, who gave all she had. The scribes, who actually held power over widows and took advantage of widows, were not authentic in their giving. The scribes gave out of their surplus, making great show of it when they did. "Jesus was not impressed."
What impresses me? Or more importantly, is Jesus impressed by me?
He hecho referencia a uno de mis comentaristas favoritos de las Escrituras, Joseph Donders. Hoy dice una y otra vez: "Jesús no se impresionó [con los escribas]". Lo que impresionó a Jesús fue la autenticidad de la viuda, que dio todo lo que tenía. Los escribas, que en realidad tenían poder sobre las viudas y se aprovechaban de las viudas, no eran auténticos en sus ofrendas. Los escribas daban de lo que sobraban, y lo mostraban muy bien cuando lo hacían. "Jesús no quedó impresionado".
