Come and see!
This is what Jesus said to his first disciples, when they asked him, "who are you?"
Jesus tells us the same: come and see! And where do we find who Jesus is? In the Gospels. The Gospels tell us all that we need to know, to know him, and to follow him.
Commentaries are very helpful, to read and consult when we read the Gospels. Commentaries help us dig beneath the surface; they help us read the Gospel in the context in which the were proclaimed, and therefore, help us to see how they are relevant in our own times.

Esto es lo que Jesús les dijo a sus primeros discípulos, cuando le preguntaron: "¿Quién eres tú?"
Jesús nos dice lo mismo: ¡ven y mira! ¿Y dónde encontramos quién es Jesús? En los evangelios. Los evangelios nos dicen todo lo que necesitamos saber, conocerlo y seguirlo.
Los comentarios son muy útiles para leer y consultar cuando leemos los Evangelios. Los comentarios nos ayudan a excavar debajo de la superficie; nos ayudan a leer el Evangelio en el contexto en el que fueron proclamados y, por tanto, nos ayudan a ver cómo son relevantes en nuestro tiempo.
