Adagio from Spartacus, a ballet by Aram Khachaturian

Updated: Jun 26, 2020

The ballet, composed in 1954, follows the exploits of Spartacus, the leader of a slave uprising against the Romans. Spartacus and his wife, Phrygia, are taken captive during battle. True to such dramatic representations, Spartacus escapes and saves his wife from the Roman consul Crassus' harem. The "Adagio" celebrates the reunion of the lovers. The music is lush, evocative, and speaks easily to anyone who has endured separation from a loved-one.
