33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time: Wisdom

Today, from the Book of Daniel:

"But the wise shall shine brightly

like the splendor of the firmament,

and those who lead the many to justice

shall be like the stars forever."

Thursday, from the Book of Wisdom:

"And she, who is one, can do all things,

and renews everything while herself perduring;

And passing into holy souls from age to age,

she produces friends of God and prophets."

Don't these two passages sound hopeful, give us hope? As we witness the earth dying, and our liturgical year coming to an end, we know "that in the dying there is a rising." We can trust that "she who can do all things ... passes into holy souls from age to age, and she produces friends of God and prophets."

These words fill me and move me. The "wise shall shine brightly" and "Wisdom passes into holy souls, from age to age."

How comforting, knowing that always there will be holy souls, and they shall shine brightly, leading many to justice.
