As Incarnate Word Sisters, the Christmas season is very dear, and is celebrated and prayed eagerly, and we encourage our friends and extended community to do the same. It is a sadness that we see, all around us, Christmas seemingly ending on Christmas Day. Christmas Day, rather, is the beginning of the Christmas Season. For much of the Christian world, Christmas seems to begin when Advent actually begins.
Christmas extends to the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord. All during this time, we hear in our daily lectionary from the First Letter of John, "fleshing out" the mystery of the Incarnation:
"What was from the beginning ... concerns the Word of life."
God holds nothing back from us: "God is love" (1 John 4:8, 16).
"The Incarnation [what we celebrate at Christmas] sets in motion the divine love revealed most dramatically in Jesus' death and resurrection" (Thomas Stegman, SJ).
"See what love God our creator has bestowed on us that we may be called children of God. Yet, so we are" (1 John 3:1).
Celebrate Christmas!
Como Hermanas del Verbo Encarnado, la temporada navideña es muy querida, se celebra y se reza con entusiasmo, y animamos a nuestros amigos y comunidad extendida a hacer lo mismo. Es una tristeza que vemos, a nuestro alrededor, la Navidad aparentemente termina el día de Navidad. El día de Navidad, más bien, es el comienzo de la temporada navideña. Para gran parte del mundo cristiano, la Navidad parece comenzar cuando realmente comienza el Adviento.
La Navidad se extiende a la Fiesta del Bautismo de Nuestro Señor. Durante todo este tiempo, escuchamos en nuestro leccionario diario de la Primera Carta de Juan, "concretando" el misterio de la Encarnación:
"Lo que fue desde el principio ... se refiere a la Palabra de vida".
Dios no nos oculta nada: "Dios es amor" (1 Juan 4: 8, 16).
"La Encarnación [lo que celebramos en Navidad] pone en movimiento el amor divino revelado más dramáticamente en la muerte y resurrección de Jesús" (Thomas Stegman, SJ).
"Mira el amor que Dios nuestro Creador nos ha dado para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios. Sin embargo, lo somos" (1 Juan 3: 1).
