Sprinkling Rite (Easter Season)

Invitation: Sisters, we bless the name of God our Creator, that this water be for us a sign of new life in Christ.

Prayer Over the Water:

Blessed are you, creator God, through you we have gift of water,

water that formed in the stars, and brought our Day Star to birth.

Water that cooled the earth, rising from deep within the cosmos.

Water that birthed the first life on Earth.

This is the water over which your Spirit hovered at the very beginning.

The water the cleansed the earth,

through which the Israelites passed,

and in which Jesus was baptized.

This is the water that Jesus calmed,

the water he turned into wine

and that flowed from his side.

Enliven this water,

so we remember that all water flows

with your holy presence.

Sprinkling (or blessing)

Opening Prayer (taken from ICEL Opening Prayers)

Bountiful God, you invite us to the table of your word and sacrament.

Satisfy the deepest hunger of we who gather here today.

May all peoples and creatures of this earth have the nourishment they need

to live their lives to the full.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Peace

God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as sisters and brothers. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone we encounter as our sister or brother.

God of hope, be with us, so that in times of disagreement we choose to listen … and enter into contemplative dialogue … so that we move to transformation and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words "division", "hatred" and "war" be banished from the heart of every human.

God of peace, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be "friend", and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam!
