The Caritas Concerts were established in 2022 by Mary Ann Winden - organist, choir director, music lover, and friend of the Chapel of the Incarnate Word – primarily to promote the organ and organ playing as a profession, within the church or worship setting.

The concerts present student, semi-professional, and professional organists in a variety of programs, including ones where the organ will partner with vocal, choral, and instrumental ensembles, displaying the broad and innovative use of the organ. Other concerts will feature instrumentalists, vocalists, and choral and vocal ensembles.

Why “caritas”? The Latin word “caritas” means charity, or love, or specifically, the outpouring of love in charitable works. All programs in the Caritas Concerts Series will be free and open to the public in order to give everyone the opportunity to experience organ and choir performances of the highest caliber: an outpouring of love through a charitable act.

Also, “caritas” is a central part, in word and mission, of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word: we are called to make visible the love of Jesus by our very lives, primarily through charitable works.
